It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gemma Pamela Stanley-Thorne, who departed this life on Monday, September 2, 2024, at her home, surrounded by the family she cherished. Born on November 3, 1933, in San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago, Gemma was a testament to love, strength, and grace.
She was the devoted mother of Michele Ann Thorne and Mari Angelique Mohammed (Ricardo), and is predeceased by her son, Michael Alan Thorne. Gemma leaves behind a legacy through her adored grandchildren, Alisha Chung (Jason), Michael Allan, and Mikaela, and her precious great-grandchildren, Khai, Jaylan, and Lyric. She is survived by her loving siblings Sydney (Lynette), Leslie, and Victor (Margaret), and dear sisters Jean and Joan (Jocelyn), as well as numerous cherished nieces and nephews. Gemma is also predeceased by siblings Edwin (Rita), Andrew (Nathalie), Jacqueline (Stuart), and Arthur.
Known for her unwavering strength, compassionate heart, and gentle spirit, Gemma dedicated herself to her family and friends. She loved welcoming others into her home with a warm smile and was celebrated for her cooking, baking, and sense of humor. Her love for conversation and hospitality will be deeply missed.
Family and friends are invited to honor Gemma’s life at her funeral service on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Morris Funeral Chapel Ltd., 4 Division Street, Bowmanville, ON L1C 2Z1. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on the same day. Burial will follow at Bowmanville Cemetery, 1330 Haines St, Bowmanville, ON. A reception will be held after the burial at Morris Funeral Chapel Ltd.

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Anne Wilkins, who passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, at Pinecrest Nursing Home in Bobcaygeon, Ontario. Born in Bowmanville, Ontario, on July 15, 1932, to Helen and Charles Burdett, Barbara lived a life full of love and family.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Grant Thertell and Roy Wilkins, and her daughter Diana Riley (Art). Barbara is survived by her sister Joan Bruce (Stan), her brother David Burdett (Tammy), and predeceased by her brother Doug Burdett (Margaret). She will be fondly remembered by her children, Ron Thertell (Pat), Pat Woolner (Keith), and Debbie Yarnell (Bill), along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barbara will be deeply missed by all who knew her and will be happily remembered for her kindness and warmth. A private interment will take place at Bowmanville Cemetery, with a Celebration of Life to be held at a future date.
