Betty Angela Wyard-Scott

October 22, 1931 – November 13, 2024

Died peacefully on November 13, 2024, at Hillsdale Estates, Oshawa, at the age of 93. Born to parents Mike and Nellie Schwartz on October 22, 1931, Betty resided in the Oshawa area for most of her life. With six siblings (Annie, Al [Elsie], Sonny, Bob, Ed, Jeannie), she had many adventures in her early years.

In 1950, Betty married Keith Wyard-Scott and they eventually welcomed daughters Tricia and Marie. Betty's adventures continued, often with family, in the form of travel and sports (camping, hiking, skiing, curling, badminton, etc).

Over her lifetime she saw all 10 Canadian Provinces, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Austria, Germany, England, Cuba, and the USA (including both Alaska and Hawaii).

After 52 years of working in retail and bookkeeping, Betty retired and became highly involved in Oshawa Senior Citizens. She made many friends in exercise and craft classes.

A generous person, Betty believed in helping where she could. Whether babysitting, inviting a family member to live with her, volunteering with Adult Day Care, or listening closely to someone who needed to talk, she willingly shared her time, always doing it with a smile.

Betty is survived by her brothers: Bob (Sook Hee) and Ed (Kelly); daughters: Tricia and Marie; grandsons: Michael, Matthew (Dione), and Ryan; great-grandchildren: Teagan, Holly, Avery, Keith, and Amber; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Oshawa Funeral Home, 847 King St. W., Oshawa, on Friday, November 22, 2024, starting at 12:30 p.m.

Elizabeth "Betty" Van Hezewyk

May 9, 1935 – November 17, 2024

Elizabeth (Betty) Van Hezewyk (nee Vonk) passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024, at the age of 89, surrounded by the love and comfort of her children. Predeceased in 2016 by Gerry, her beloved husband of 59 years, Betty was the proud mother of Jane (Don Campbell), John, Mary (Peter Menzies), Marg (Mark Lacy), Gerry (Cecilia Latorre), and Peter (Jennifer). She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and as a cherished “Oma” and “Special Oma” to many.

Betty immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands at the age of 15, bringing her resilience and strong work ethic. Over the years, she dedicated herself to her family, her community, and her faith. As a volunteer, Betty contributed to many organizations, including the Pickering Boy Scouts, the Rose of Durham, and St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. Her dedication was recognized in 1996 when she received the Pope John Paul II Medal for Volunteer Service.

In retirement, Betty enjoyed extensive travel, reading, and family gatherings where her famous meatball soup was a highlight. Her family remembers her as a loving matriarch and community organizer who lived with purpose and heart. Rest easy, Mom. There’s nothing left to organize. We’ve got it from here.

Visitation will be held at Oshawa Funeral Home, 847 King Street West, Oshawa, on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Parish, 903 Giffard Street, Whitby. Interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Whitby.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory may be made to The Rose of Durham or The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.

Amy Yung Mi Tsai

November 23, 1941 – November 9, 2024

Passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, at the age of 82, surrounded by her children and grandchildren after a brief illness. Amy was born in Taipei, Taiwan, on November 23, 1941, and immigrated to Canada with her beloved husband William Te Yang Tsai (predeceased in 2002) on December 10, 1971. In Oshawa, Ontario, they built a life together cultivating friendships, embracing new traditions, and creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Amy was the heart of her family, nurturing a warm and inviting home filled with delicious meals and strong family bonds. Her life was a testament to her strength of character and the kindness she generously shared. Amy was a gracious host, a talented cook, an avid gardener, and a passionate traveler.

A devoted mother and Ahma, Amy will be forever cherished by her children, David Tsai (recently predeceased by Neve Tsai), John Tsai (Carolyn Tsai), Wendy Tsai Cochrane (Rob Cochrane), grandchildren Rochelle Pizzuti (Christian Pizzuti), Erica Tsai, Liam Tsai, Alex Tsai, Shannon Tsai, Ben Cochrane, and Piper Cochrane.

A Buddhist ceremony for Amy was conducted in Taipei, Taiwan, on November 12, 2024. Funeral services will be held at the Oshawa Funeral Home, 847 King Street West, on Amy’s birthday, Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 10:30 AM in the chapel. Reception will follow.

David Allan Savery

November 29, 1952 – November 8, 2024

SAVERY, David Allan – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dave at home on November 8, 2024, after a short battle with cancer, at the age of 71.

Lovingly remembered by his wife, Tracey (nee Naylor). Predeceased by his parents, Jim and Marie, and his brother, John. Dave will be greatly missed by his in-laws Stephanie and Guy May, Michele and Jim Roberts, Cheryl and Gary Moss, Laurie Kennedy, and Lisa Cunningham, as well as by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dave loved the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing with his in-laws and his close friends. In his younger years, he had a passion for racing snowmobiles and enjoyed playing hockey and baseball.

Honouring Dave’s wishes, there will be no service.

The pain is gone—rest in peace, Dave.

William Joseph Malnick

September 7, 1931 – November 12, 2024

MALNICK, William Joseph "Bill" – Passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Lakeridge Hospital on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at the age of 93. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Isabell (nee Kendall). Loving father of Lou Bomhof (Bob), Jo-ann Tikkanen (Elvis), Bernard Melnick (Lorrie), and Shannon Magee (Andy).

Cherished grandfather of 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Julie Gaetan. Predeceased by his siblings Steven, Walter, John, and Annie. Bill will be missed by all his family and friends.

Born in Dominion Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Bill worked for 32 years at General Motors Canada. He dedicated much of his life to helping others as a substance abuse representative and as a sponsor to many through his 54-year membership in Alcoholics Anonymous.

BOWEN, David Wayne – David was born in Cobourg, Ontario, on August 10, 1954, the son of Barbara and the late Clarence Bowen. Beloved husband of Ella and dear father of Michael, David passed away peacefully at their home in Oshawa, Ontario, on November 9, 2024, at the age of 71.

Loved by his siblings, twin brother Christopher (Ann), Claire (Scott), Ian (Janice), and Jeffrey, David will also be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Henry Francis Zwolak

May 25, 1956 – November 7, 2024

It comes with sadness for having lost you, but gratitude for having known you. Henry passed away after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer, peacefully at home in his wife’s arms on November 7th, 2024. He was the loving husband to Kate, father to Kristopher and Kalina, and stepfather to Emily (Jeremie) and Rebecca (Erik). Cherished as Grandpa (Dziadzia) to his best little buddy, Abraham, and beloved as an honorary father to Zoey.

Henry is survived by his loving sister Lilly (Joe), and will be dearly missed by his nieces and nephews: Jayme (Nick) and their children Hudson and Teddy; Mark (Nicole) and their children Levy, Ceci, and Brooks; Joseph (Rosaly) and their children Lyla and JJ; Kristyna (Rick) and their children Hank and Hadley; and Matthew. Henry will be lovingly remembered by many wonderful friends and family.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Kadou and the staff at the Walker Cancer Clinic, Lakeridge Health Hospitals and Cancer Treatment staff, and Dr. Antanrajakumar and the Palliative Care at Home team for their compassionate care.

Reunited with his parents, Ted and Diane, and his furry friends, Macky and Murfy.

A visitation for Henry will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hulse & English Funeral Home, 75 Church Street, St. Catharines, Ontario. Kenneth Gregory Goddard

August 10, 1936 – November 8, 2024

It is with deep sadness that prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of Kenneth Gregory Goddard, who passed away peacefully on November 8, 2024, at the age of 88. Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Goddard, and will be dearly missed by his children: Christopher Goddard, Kevin Goddard; daughters-in-law, Rosalyn Goddard and Mary Campisi; and his grandchildren, William Goddard, Joseph Goddard, Coen Goddard, Gabriel Goddard, Grady Goddard, Alex Ruggieri, and Christopher Ruggieri.

Kenneth was known for his dedication to coaching football, and his passion and knowledge made a tremendous impact on many players. Kenneth mentored countless young athletes, contributing to programs at Paul Dwyer, St. Mary C.S.S., Henry Street High School, The Oshawa Hawkeyes, The Scarborough Rams, York University, and St. Mary University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Bernard Kenneth McDonald

August 25, 1932 – October 31, 2024

After a rich and varied life of 92 years, Ken McDonald passed away peacefully in the hospital with his family by his side. He was a devoted husband to Lucie for 68 years and a loving father to his four children: Catherine (Frank), Vivian (John), Jacqueline, and Michael (Amanda). His eight grandchildren—Kyle, Brendan, Emily, Scott, Laurel, Mark, Sarah, and Aimee—and seven great-grandchildren: Holden, Cordelia, Thea, Olivia, Lucie, Jack, and James, will carry precious memories of him. Ken was a playful and caring Grandpa.

Ken briefly attended McGill University before joining the RCAF, inspired by his cousin’s pilot’s uniform. It was while stationed in France that he met Lucie, who returned to Canada with him to build a beautiful life together.

Known for his strong sense of responsibility, Ken also had a soft heart. Early in his career at GMAC, while tasked with repossessing a TV from a family with young children, he stayed to let them finish their show and even left them each a quarter. He soon moved into data management services, later retiring from EDS in 1992 after proudly completing his degree part-time through the University of Toronto in 1990.

Family vacations to Wasaga Beach, Cape Cod, and Florida with his siblings Bryce (Kay), Robert (Evelyn), and Gail (Barry) were treasured times, as were his travel adventures with Lucie. Together, they explored destinations in Europe, Russia, China, and more, with Ken often behind the camera capturing each journey.

Ken was a role model, a devoted family man, and the epitome of a good human being. His humor, kindness, and ability to laugh at himself made him a cherished figure in the lives of all who knew him. We are deeply saddened by his passing but grateful for the countless memories and the legacy of love and laughter he leaves behind. He truly lived a life well lived, and we will miss him dearly.

A private family celebration of Ken’s life will take place in the spring.

Roy Ambrose Harris, age 72, of Oshawa, Ontario, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Deolinda "Linda," loving father of Jeffrey and Jennifer (Adam), and a devoted grandfather to Jacob Harris, Hailey Renee, Abigail Harris, and Mikayla Harris.

Roy will be dearly missed by his sister Colleen Harris (Joe), and lovingly remembered by his nephew Roy Harris (Julie). His presence brought warmth and joy to all who knew him.
