VAREY, Gail Varey, B.A., B.Ed. - On February 2, 2024, Gail was reunited with her beloved husband, Canon D. Logan Varey.
She is the loving and generous mother to Robyn and grandmother to Andrew, Sarah, Grace, and Eden.
She is the daughter of the late Robert and Ida Hubbard, and the daughter-in-law of the late Dr. Douglas and Eileen Varey. In her youthful summers, she taught swimming, lifesaving, and canoeing.
She was a gold cord Guide. In her adult years, she was a volunteer at Wellspring at Sunnybrook Hospital and a member of both the Junior League of Toronto, and the Caribou Group, Grace Church-on-the Hill. Following her graduation in 1969 from Huron College, the University of Western Ontario, and in 1970 from the Faculty of Education, University of Toronto, she taught Secondary School English and was a Guidance Counselor for 24 years for the TDSB until the ravages of cancer took over.
She was a founding member and past President of the Huron College Alumni Board of Directors, a member of the Corporation, and she has remained an Honorary Director of the Alumni Board until her death.
Gail's involvement with Huron throughout her life meant a tremendous amount to her. Among Gail's happier times were those spent with Logan in the Anglican Church, with her family, golden retrievers, and friends at Strathgowan and the incredible times they shared on 'Little Island' and the coast of Maine.
She was strong and courageous to the end.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Grace Church on-the-Hill, on Friday, February 9th at 2 p.m. Reception to follow.
