LUMSDEN, Gerald 'Gerry' - With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Gerald Lumsden while surrounded by his loving family, at the Sunnybrook Hospital - Veteran's Wing on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the age of 94.
Gerald is now reunited with the love of his life Gwendolyn Lumsden.
Beloved father to Jay (Penny) and Meg (Dave). Cherished grandfather to Chantelle, Derek and Maddy and 'Dad#2' to Dan.
Gerry was a WW II veteran and a proud member of the Air Force Police Unit. His military experience carried over to his working carrier as he spent 32 proud years as a corrections officer. He was a hard working and dedicated family man. He always took care of his family; even as his illness set in he strived to look out for others. He had an astounding memory; being able to recall small details even as far back as his military days. He loved to spend time watching baseball and in particular his beloved Toronto Blue Jays. He also had quite the amazing green thumb - he loved tending to his flowers. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
Special appreciation is extended to the nurses of the K3 Centre Wing of Sunnybrook Hospital for their compassionate care.
Family and friends will be received at the Ward funeral home (4671 Highway #7, Woodbridge) on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. A funeral service will take place in the funeral home chapel on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Veteran's Wing of Sunnybrook Hospital or to a Royal Canadian Legion branch would be appreciated.
