FAGUY, Arthur Joseph Edward 'Art' - Peacefully in his sleep at the Hamilton General Hospital on May 8th, 2019 from complications due to a recent stroke at the age of 88.
Art was a 32-year veteran of the Hamilton Police Service from walking a beat, to motorcycle detail, detective, and retiring as Staff Sergeant in 1982.
For the next 11 years, he worked with the Federal Government heading the Hamilton office for false advertising.
Art was very involved in the Hamilton Sport Community; playing, refereeing, coaching. He was an administrator for the Hamilton Police Minor Athletic Association and helped start the Hamilton Football Officials Association. He was also a linesman and referee with the CFL for over 16 years.
He was a longtime member of the Hamilton Police Retirees Association and provided leadership for the Hamilton Police Museum. Most recently, he was member of the St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Hamilton and resided at The Court of Rushdale in Hamilton.
During retirement, he was able to pursue his love of golf and wood carving, providing instruction and mentorship at local senior centres, winning many awards and designing many unique and special pieces for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survived by his wife Barbara and six children; Paul (Christy), Peter (Rada), Joanne (Vince), John (Kim), Gary (Sue), and David (Katie) and additionally 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren with a third expected soon. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by Helen Hewak and his siblings Teresa (Joe), Armand (Sheila) and Marie (Stan).
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, Hamilton on Monday, May 13th from 10 am -12 pm, 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church -Corpus Christi Site, 1694 Upper James St. Hamilton on Tuesday, May 14th at 10 a.m. Interment to follow in Burlington.
