GRAVITIS, Karen Marjorie - (1952 - 2020) Karen Marjorie Gravitis passed peacefully at home on December 15, 2020 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born June 15, 1952 in Toronto, Ontario to Shirley Dalton and Margaret Strowger.
Loving wife to John, sister to Patti (1953-2010) and Debbie, “Auntie” to her niece Amanda, and great niece Aliah and ”Buddy” to great nephew Jordan. She loved supporting her pride and joys, Jordan and Aliah, on their journey to adulthood who are now well on their way to fulfilling their dreams.
As an 18 year old, Karen knew her purpose in life was to be an educator. Her love of children was the motivating force that led her to become an amazing teacher, principal and superintendent. Karen became a role model and mentor for many aspiring leaders in education.
Karen was a leader and devoted her time to make a difference during her life: in her career, during retirement and at the Cedarbrae Golf Club. She appreciated all the love and support provided in messages, visits, food, flowers and tributes to the important ways she contributed to so many friends and colleagues. This reflected her collaborative approach to life. Nurturing her gardens became her passion that brought joy to her and the neighbourhood.
We will all remember Karen’s warm and infectious smile that touched our hearts.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Giffen-Mack funeral Home, Scarborough chapel. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the funeral service will be limited to immediate family only on Tuesday December 22nd.
