It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Katherine Eleanor Cochrane died on Friday December 8th, in her 80th year.
Kathy was born in St. Catharines, Ontario on April 17th, the beloved only daughter of John William and Margaret Eleanor (Kennedy) Gare.
Kathy graduated from Queen’s University in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, followed by a Masters of Library Science degree from the University of Toronto.
She had a long and rewarding career as a librarian, holding a variety of management roles. For most of her professional life she worked at the St. Catharines Public Library and was very proud of her time there, and her many close colleagues.
She retired in 1995 but remained a passionate reader with a deep love of Canadian literature. Kathy is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 39 years, A. Wayne Cochrane, her daughter, Kristin and her son-in-law, Tom Best.
We wish to thank the staff of AgeCare Samac in Oshawa for their excellent care over the last year and a half, and the incredibly kind caregivers in Durham Region who supported Kathy and all of us over these last years.
Donations may be made in Kathy’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
As per the family’s wishes no formal services will be held.
