Lydia Rosalie Krechowicz

September 23, 1958 - November 20, 2024

Lydia Rosalie Krechowicz passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, at the age of 66 after a brave battle with cancer.
Loving mother of Alex (Laura), she adored her grandchildren and was a cherished Baba to Annette and Jakob. Her final moments were spent surrounded by family and close friends.

Lydia was the eldest daughter of Polish immigrants Stefan and Janina, born into a large and loving family.
Cherished sister of Richard (Lynda), Ted (the late Sue Hogan), Kazimir, Eva, and Alice (Steve). Beloved aunt of Dana, Jill (Jack), and Regine (Steve), and their children Colin, Mark, Nora, and Simon. She is predeceased by her cousin Krystina, who was like an older sister to her. Lydia treasured her many friends, who she considered extended family.

Known for her fierce determination, Lydia lived a life of adventure and fun. She was an avid skier, including serving as a ski patroller, and spent many happy summers at the family cottage on Georgian Bay. She was a skilled and resourceful businesswoman, transitioning from hotel management to teaching and later to real estate, property management, and accounting. She was also ecologically minded and loved a good bargain, never wasting anything.

Lydia was dedicated to her Polish heritage, serving as President of Sikorski Neighbourhood Park Inc. and maintaining strong ties to Poland through visits, cultural traditions, and language studies. She was also committed to the care of her parents and aunt Irena, ensuring their legacies were preserved.

Visitation will take place at Thornton Cemetery Funeral Centre, 1200 Thornton Road North, Oshawa, on Thursday, November 28, 2024, from 6-8 p.m., and on Friday, November 29, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the time of service in the chapel at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lydia’s memory are gratefully accepted for Lung Cancer Canada (https://lungcancercanada.ca/).

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Thornton Cemetery Funeral Centre.
