Tennant LilletTENNANT, Lillet Henreta - (August 11, 1925 - December 26, 2020) -

On August 11, 1925, a beautiful baby girl named Lillet was born to Mr. & Mrs. Vivine Graham in Honduras, South America. The first of four children, she was the apple of her parents’ eyes. The family eventually migrated to Jamaica where Lillet blossomed into an incredibly beautiful young lady who helped to nurture her younger siblings.

At the tender age of nineteen, Lillet met and married the only love of her life, Ezekiel Tennant. Their union blessed them with five children. An ambitious and industrious Lillet sought to make London their new home. However, this move was not to be and in 1956 she returned to Jamaica where she took up residence in Lucea, Hanover.

Lillet was light years ahead of her time. Through her entrepreneurial talent, she independently started her own dressmaking and button and buckle covering business which she operated from home. Lillet was known throughout the town of Lucea for her skillful ability to sew, freehand, any garment selected by her customers. Her home was regularly visited by patrons who not only needed outfits made but by other budding dressmakers and tailors who needed buttons and buckles covered to complete an outfit.

She was a popular and well-respected member of the community of Haughton Gardens, where she lived, for not only her ability to sew but also for her impeccably kept garden of flowers. Her award-winning potted plants earned her many awards at locally held flower shows.

As a deeply religious and God-fearing woman, Lillet was a devoted member of the Church of God. Her love of music and ability to play the piano, guitar and harmonica were great assets during her time as the choir director.

However, her gifts went beyond dressmaking and music. Lillet fully believed that you are never too old to learn and earned a degree at age 50, securing a teaching position at Lucea Junior Secondary School. During her tenure there, she took many students under her wing. She not only shared her talents with them, but her home as well, becoming a mother figure. This continued until her retirement.

In the late 1980’s, Lillet began traveling to visit and spend time with her children in Canada and the United States. This was a well-deserved way to enjoy her retirement. However, in 1990, while practicing the new songs she planned for the choir, Lillet suffered a debilitating stroke which left her unable to speak. The next 30 years were spent in Canada with her daughter, Nessa, who diligently cared for her. Although unable to verbally communicate, Lillet interacted with friends and family with smiles, laughter, hand gestures and the occasional word. Her disability did not stop her from humming along to some of her favourite hymns.

On December 26, 2020, Lillet transitioned peacefully into eternity to be with the Lord she loved.

Left to cherish fond memories of her are her Children: Norma, Nessa, Norbert, Nena, and Claudia;
Grandchildren: Lorraine, Wayne, Lesley, Ashleigh, and Sheldon;
Great granddaughters: Jenneil and Kamayla and Great-great granddaughter: Daliah.
She will also be missed by her Caregivers: Zelena, Deloris and Baljinder

May the soul of Lillet Tennant rest in peace and rise in Glory.

Arrangements entrusted with Scott funeral home, WOODBRIDGE chapel.
