MAIRS, William David Mairs -

January 20, 1954 - June 2, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of William (Bill) David Mairs on June 2, 2024.

Bill was the beloved husband of Donna Mairs (nee Cowle) for 51 years and a loving father to his daughters Jennifer and Amanda (Warren), who treasured him in return.

He was “Papa” to his cherished grandsons Tyler (Kensey) and Brandon (Erin) and great-grandchildren Hannah, Blake and Jade, whom he loved and adored.

He is survived by his mother Joan Mairs (nee Gibner) and sisters Marg Smith and Kim (Albert) Mairs. Loving nephew of Bruce Mairs in Nova Scotia.

Loved son-in-law to Ruth Cowle (nee Adams). Dear brother-in-law to Steve Millson, Donnie (Karen) Cowle, and Kenny (Sharon) Cowle.

He will be remembered as “Uncle Bill” to many nieces and nephews. Bill is predeceased by his father David Mairs, sister Heather Kanters, father-in-law Don Cowle, brother-in-law Bruce Smith, and sister-in-law Cindy Millson.

Bill was Born on January 20, 1954, at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville and was raised in the family farmhouse on the outskirts of town.

He was a dedicated employee at General Motors Oshawa Assembly for 35 years, in both the North and South plants, where he took pride in his many jobs and the valued friendships he made along the way.

During his brave and determined 2-year battle with cancer, every hurdle and challenge he faced with his health, his goal was always to get back home to his family, recliner, and Corvette.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the nurses and doctors at Lakeridge Health Cancer Centre, EMS/doctors and nurses at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville and his home care team, who all provided exceptional care for him alongside his family. A private family service will take place at a later date.

If desired, memorial donations to R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre, Lakeridge Health Bowmanville or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated
