MASSARO, Tyler Massaro

MASSARO, Tyler

1983 – 2024

Tyler Massaro, age 41, passed away on June 24, 2024, surrounded by family at Hamilton General Hospital following complications from surgery.

Tyler was born on April 8, 1983. He spent his early life enjoying time at the Massaro family camp at Oliver Lake, summers at the Scott family pool, and playing with friends on Christina Street in Westfort. As a young boy, Tyler enjoyed his time with family, particularly going to WWF wrestling events with Uncle Frank, dune buggy rides at camp with his Dad and Grandpa, and road trips in the motorhome with Grandma. He attended St. Elizabeth Elementary and St. Patrick’s High School, earning a reputation as a free-spirited and kind-hearted soul who was always up for a good time.

As a young adult, Tyler began traveling to Treasure Beach, Jamaica, with his close family friends, the Bragnalo and Malanych families, both of whom welcomed Tyler into their Treasure Beach home. They introduced him to a lifestyle and sense of community that began a love affair with the island, its people, and pace of lifeā€”all of which would grow to be the most influential component of Tyler’s adult life. Tyler soon moved to the island to live there full-time and build his life there.

In 2016, Tyler married the love of his life, Sanya Phipps, in Kingston, Jamaica. In 2020, Tyler and Sanya were overjoyed at the birth of their daughter, Giovanna. Tyler took immense pride in being a father and raising Giovanna alongside their three older children: Otar, Orlando, and Sandorell.

Despite facing significant challenges and obstacles, this past winter, Tyler successfully accomplished his ultimate goal of moving his family to Canada. Although many people told Tyler that there was little hope of it happening, he persevered and managed to get the job done.

Tyler was predeceased by his grandparents, John (Bunny) and Maxine Massaro, Norman and Joyce Scott, and Uncle Frank Rossetti. Tyler is survived by his wife Sanya and children Otar, Orlando, Sandorell, and Giovanna; father John (Cindy) Massaro and mother Janice (Michael Janachovsky) Scott-Janachovsky; brother Brent (Lisa) Massaro and their children Max and Sienna; aunt and uncles Cheryl (Dan Shott) Rossetti, Mark Scott, and Fraser (Mary Jane) Scott; cousins Jessica (Jay) Matayzyk, Kevin (Domenica) Gvora, Daniel and Jeffery Scott; Cindy’s children Ashley (Kristin Gravel) Hill and Cory (Andrea) Hill and their daughter Grace; and in-laws Trevor and Maureen Phipps of Jamaica.

The family would like to extend its sincere appreciation to all of the medical professionals who, over the last months of Ty’s journey, made their best efforts to resolve his health complications.

A celebration of Tyler’s life will be held at the Da Vinci Centre, 340 Waterloo St S, on Saturday, July 6, 2024, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with words of tribute being offered at 1:30 p.m. Please dress casually; it is mandatory as it is what Ty would have wanted.

For those unable to attend in person, the words of tribute will be streamed live at www.harbourviewfuneral.ca.

If friends desire, in lieu of flowers, a trust fund has been established for Tyler’s children. Contributions can be made via e-transfer to lisa.sanya.massaro@gmail.com or by making cheques payable to “Lisa Massaro or Sanya Massaro”.
