Susan Margaret Mathieson
April 30, 1959 – April 14, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Susan Margaret Mathieson, who passed away on April 14, 2025, at the age of 65. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time of her passing, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness.
Susan was born in Welland, Ontario, to Walter and Dorothy Pychyl. Her childhood was filled with love, support, and encouragement from her parents and her beloved older brother, Tim Pychyl (Beth Rohr). Susan’s Auntie Ebby and Uncle Brian were like second parents to her, and their influence shaped the strong woman she became.
In 1983, Susan met the love of her life, Duncan, at Queen’s University. They married on October 1 of that year, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and adventure. Susan dedicated herself to raising their four children: Ian (Julia Winters), Andrea, Victoria (Andrew MacIsaac), and Emily (Graham Reid). She was actively involved in their lives, coaching soccer, attending school events, and celebrating every achievement, no matter how small.
In addition to her role as a devoted mother, Susan had a successful career, co-owning a clothing boutique, becoming a personal trainer, and later excelling as a top-selling travel agent. Her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication were evident in everything she did.
Later in life, Susan discovered a love for travel, embarking on adventures to Morocco, Vietnam, Cambodia, and beyond. Alongside Duncan, she enjoyed their travels together, relishing in the beauty of the world while continuing to build a lifetime of memories.
Susan will be lovingly remembered by her children, her grandchildren Elise, Maddie, and Duncan Finley, and by her many friends and family members. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and the joy of living life fully.
A celebration of Susan's life will take place on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Scarboro Golf & Country Club. Words of remembrance will be shared at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. The family will be making donations in Susan’s name to the Ajax-Pickering Hospital Foundation, the Arthritis Society Canada, and The Ronald McDonald Family Room at Markham Stouffville Hospital, organizations that support health and wellness in Canada.
We thank all the healthcare workers, family, and friends who supported Susan throughout her treatment, and we ask you to join us in honoring her life and legacy. She will forever live on in our hearts.
