We sadly announce the passing of Walter Mitchell on February 19, 2025, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, surrounded by his loving family in his 100th year.

Walter was born on July 27, 1925, to loving parents Benjamin and Catherine Mitchell in Toronto, ON.

He will be remembered by his sons Bob (Linda) and Rick (MaryAnne); his grandchildren, Mark (Karen), Tara (Greg), Janine (Richard), and David. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Katherine (Guy), Jessica, James, Julia, Vanessa, and Gwen.

Walter will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Reta (1989), his wife Sophie (1993), and his long-time companion Marian Leonard (2023), as well as his siblings Catherine (Kit), Ben, Alfred (Mick), George (Frank), Rose, and Jim.

Walter was a proud member of the Armed Forces during World War II.

In his retirement, he embraced new activities, enjoying camping, traveling, fishing, reading, and spending time at the cottage.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

As per Walter’s wishes, private family services will take place. The family extends their gratitude for everyone's support during this time.
