Gerard Joseph Monaghan

June 23, 1955 - November 29, 2024

Gerard (“Gerry”) Monaghan passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on November 29, 2024, at the age of 69. He was the loving husband of 48 years to Linda Monaghan, devoted Dad to daughters Alison Simpson and Catherine Monaghan, father-in-law to Dan Simpson and Matthew van Warmerdam, and proud Papa to grandchildren Leo and Lyla Simpson.

Gerry will also be deeply missed by his sisters Margaret Mary Smith (Andy) and Kathleen Cunningham (Gerry), brother-in-law Dennis McIvor, sister-in-law Sheila Monaghan, sister-in-law Sharon Marsland (Willie), and brother-in-law John Berry (Liz). His many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews will feel the loss of their beloved Uncle Gerard.

Gerry is reunited with many special people eager to welcome him, including his parents Leo and Mary Monaghan, his brothers Alistair Monaghan and Joseph Monaghan (sister-in-law Patricia), his sister June McIvor, and brother-in-law David Marsland.

Gerry left a lasting impression on everyone he met. From his hometown of Dumbarton, Scotland, to Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, he created many circles of friends. A longtime parishioner of St. Mary of the People Parish and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Gerry also proudly belonged to the Durham Celtic Supporter’s Club. He was a dedicated steward of the Power Workers’ Union and a 33-year employee of Ontario Power Generation.
