AMICO, Mary D’Amico
July 19, 1928 - October 7, 2025
Passed away peacefully on October 7th, 2025 in her 97th year. She was the beloved wife of late Dominic – 2009. Loving mother of Dr. Carol D’Amico, Diane D’Amico Bravo (Jesse) and Philip (Vivian); and grandmother of 3, and great grandmother of 1. She was predeceased by parents Giovanni and Carmella Greggio; sisters, Eileen (Tony) Barbetta, Isabel (Emil) Szabo, Gladys (Carmen) Sciortino, Genevieve (Raymond) Lalouet, brothers Tony, Floyd, Adolph and William (KIA 1943), and by her sisters-in-law, Beverly, Carmella, and Jeanette.
Born in Humberstone, she resided there until her marriage. After residing in Kingston and Welland, in 1965, the D’Amico family emigrated from Welland to the United States and remained there until her husband retired in 1986 when they moved to Port Colborne, where she often called Port her true home.
While residing in the USA, Mary was very active in various organizations. She had been a member of the CWL since she joined in 1965. She was also a member of a very prestigious sorority, Kappa, Kappa, Kappa, that was involved in many charitable activities. Her commitment to charitable work is also reflected in her work as a charter member of a newly formed Women’s Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus branch in the State of Indiana and was their first President. Her other important project was her involvement in mental health. She regularly visited and assisted in the State Hospitals in both the State of Indiana and Pennsylvania.
Since her return to Port Colborne in 1986, Mary had remained very active. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary and the Senior’s group of Club Castropignano. She was a member of the Sons of Italy-Casa Dante Lodge in Welland, and a past member of Port Colborne Bocce Club. She also belonged to the Senior’s Clubs of St. Peter and Paul and VE Retirees in Welland. Mary always looked forward to helping Meals on Wheels.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Bayshore Health Care for their excellent support and service; and in particular, to Mary’s longtime caregiver, Jillian Stewart, who treated her as family; and Jenn Favaro, Baryshore’s Manager and nurse who went over and beyond her normal duties and responsibilities to care for Mary.
