With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ann Roberta Gibel at the age of 81.
Ann died peacefully with her son by her side at The Ottawa Hospital on Friday, November 24, 2023.
Ann was the loving mother to Tim and daughter-in-law Nicolette, and a very special Gran to Samuel and Estelle.
Dear daughter of the late Dr. Robert and Marjorie Bishop.
She is survived by her sisters Gail and Jill (late Steve and the late Bill) in Nova Scotia. Ann loved and was loved by nieces and nephews Craig (Edie), Rene (Clarie), Bob (Alecia), Tina (Brad), the late Geoff, Paul (Sandra), John (Lori), Anne Marie, the late Francine (Cliff), Peter (Janice), and their children.
She was predeceased by her brother-in-law Joe Gibel and his wife Anne. Ann was born in Ottawa and moved to Nova Scotia with her parents and sisters. At the age of sixteen she moved to Toronto to complete her degree in nursing at the University of Toronto.
She worked in community nursing with St. Elizabeth’s and later in geriatric rehabilitation at Sunnybrook Hospital.
Ann was married to the late Andrew Gibel for more than 25 years and together they raised their son in Toronto.
After retirement Ann moved to Brighton, Ontario where she lived some of her happiest years. Ann returned to Ottawa in 2019 to spend time with her family.
A special thanks to The Ottawa Hospital, the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, and Lord Lansdowne for the compassionate care they provided over the past five years.
A visitation will be held at the Hulse, Playfair & McGarry Funeral Home located at 315 McLeod Street in Ottawa on Thursday, November 30th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 194 Fourth Avenue at 11:00 a.m. A reception will take place at the funeral home following the mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
