ARABIA, Maria Arabia

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Maria Arabia on March 1, 2026, in Toronto, Ontario, just one day shy of her 94th birthday.

Born on March 2, 1932, in Paterno Calabro, Calabria, Italy, Maria courageously immigrated to Toronto in the 1950s, where she built a beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and tradition. She was the beloved wife of the late Luigi Arabia, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and devotion.

Maria was a devoted mother to her late daughter Teresina, and to her sons Giovanni (Angela) and Domenico (Daisy). She was a proud and loving Nonna to Bianca (Brandon), Cory (Natalia), and Olivia (Brandon), and a cherished bisnonna to her great-grandson Anthony, and to a great-granddaughter eagerly awaited later this spring.

A devoted homemaker, Maria poured her heart into caring for her family. Her kitchen was the centre of her home — always filled with the comforting aroma of homemade meals and the sound of her singing. Whether she was cooking, cleaning, or tending to her garden, she did so with energy and song. Her voice became a soundtrack to family life — a sound that will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved her.

Spunky, full of life, and fiercely devoted, Maria found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: nurturing her garden, watching her beloved Italian soap operas, and speaking daily with her sisters both in Canada and those who remained back in Italy. Her deep Catholic faith guided her life and sustained her through every joy and hardship.

Maria’s legacy is one of strength, resilience, warmth, and unwavering love for family. She leaves behind a family grounded in the traditions and values she worked so hard to preserve.

She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and eternally loved.
