
With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Lalie “Lollie” Archie, known as Memngwaa Miigsi, on November 2, 2024, at the age of 74. Lollie passed away at Rainycrest Long Term Care in Fort Frances and is now reunited with her beloved husband, Louis, her children, and her parents.
Lollie was born on January 8, 1950, in Assabaska First Nation to parents Steven Adams and Jean Archie. She cherished time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family members. Lollie worked in tourism and as a janitor for Big Island First Nation, leaving an impact through her dedication and kindness.
She is lovingly remembered by her sisters Susan (Tommy Councillor), Kristine, Lena, and her brother Leslie. Her memory lives on through her grandchildren Ashley, Brittany, Brendan, Cassandra, Rashel, Colton, and her many great-grandchildren. Lollie is predeceased by her parents, Steven and Jean; adopted parents Pegamigaabo (Billy) & Sagachine ‘binesiik (Rosie) Archie; siblings Jenny, Garry, Doris, and Larry; children Patricia, Sandra, and Louis Jr.; and her husband, Louis Kirkrude.
A traditional wake will be held on Thursday, November 7, at 4:00 p.m. at Big Grassy First Nation Hall, with a traditional service on Friday, November 8, at 10:00 a.m., also at Big Grassy First Nation Hall. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River.
In Lollie’s memory, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Kenora/Rainy River District would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Northridge Funeral Home Ltd. in Emo, Ontario.
