ARMSTRONG, Gregory Andrew Byers Armstrong

Gregory Andrew Byers Armstrong passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, just ten days after his 44th birthday.

Born and raised in Milton, Ontario, Greg was the beloved son of Ron and Marilyn Armstrong of New Hamburg and devoted older brother to Trevor Armstrong of Squamish, BC. He was the loving life partner of Parakram Thapa of Toronto, and a doting uncle to his nephew, Miller.

Greg will be deeply missed by his grandmother, Catherine Ruth Armstrong of Ingersoll, and his extended family: aunts, uncles; Jim (Judy) Armstrong, Ken (Patty) Armstrong, Barb (John) Peters, Joan (Henry) Leistner, Glenn Finnie (Aida Bosneag), his cousins; Darci, Dani, Dylan, Katie and Tyce Armstrong, Jordan, Brandon and Breken Finnie and Braedan Peters. Greg will also sadly be missed by the Thapa family (Mamata, Binod, Supriti, and Bipun). He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Huck Armstrong and Donald Finnie, and grandmother Marion Finnie.

Greg lived with boundless curiosity and passion. An Ontario Scholar and Queen’s University graduate (where friends knew him as Rory). His 20-year career in software technology took him from IBM to Microsoft. His intellectual spirit thrived on learning – he voraciously read news, engaged with world affairs, politics, and the arts, and embraced diverse cultures through music, cuisine and travel.

He loved the desert heat, the warmth of the sun, and found peace in nature, whether hiking, working out, or observing wildlife. Greg’s athleticism shines through his years swimming with the Milton Marlins, teaching skiing at Glen Eden, and rowing on Queen’s Varsity team. His towering 6’5″ presence was matched only by the size of his heart – open-minded, generous, and quick to share his infectious laugh.

Greg and Parakram built a life rich in adventure, from working remotely in Chile to their cherished tropical getaways, though they found equal joy in simple long walks along Toronto’s waterfront, talking and dreaming for hours. Greg’s kindness, sharp intellect and radiant spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to CAMH (www.cmhato.org) and Mount Sinai Hospital (www.sinaihealth.ca) for their compassionate care during difficult times. In lieu of flowers, donations to either institution would honor Greg’s legacy of resilience and compassion.

There will be a Celebration of Life at McKersie & Early Funeral Home, 114 Main St. E., Milton, ON from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
