DURKSEN, Arthur ‘Art’ – It is with a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of Art Durksen on December 26, 2015 at the age of 89.
A devoted husband, caring father and loving grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be sadly missed by his wife of 64 years, Anne; his children, Sharon and Ken Boschman, Ken and Carol Durksen, Randy Durksen, Steven and Janet Durksen, Sandra and Robert Hesp, Sandy Salvati; and his 24 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Art was born into the family of David and Sarah Durksen on April 30, 1926 in Winkler, Manitoba. He is predeceased by four brothers and one sister and fondly remembered by six surviving sisters.
Art began a career in education in Manitoba, moving to Ontario in 1948. He married Anne Janzen on August 10, 1951. Art loved to sing and lead others in singing, directing choirs and adding his rich bass voice to various groups. After several years of teaching, Art continued as the principal of MacArthur, Port Weller and Lockview Schools.
A sincere thanks to the staff of the Port Colborne Hospital for the special care given to Art during his stay.
Visitation will take place at Tallman Funeral Home, Vineland, on Wednesday, December 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
After a private, family burial, a memorial service will be held at Fairview M.B. Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 31st.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee.
