It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George “Joe” Aungier, at home, just as he wished, after a long and courageous journey with Alzheimer’s and kidney disease. While the days were getting short, his passing still came as a deep shock to those who loved and cared for him.
Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife of over forty years, Rose. He leaves behind his devoted son Darren, daughter-in-law Samantha, and cherished grandson Fionn, who brought him great joy. Joe’s final months were marked by a noticeable decline in health, but he remained in good spirits, surrounded by the love and care of his family and a dedicated team of caregivers.
Born in Ireland, Joe later immigrated to Canada, maintaining ties with loved ones back home. He carried his Irish roots proudly and joyfully returned to visit whenever he could. Joe had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures, long walks by Lake Ontario or through the neighborhood, classical and Irish music playing softly in the background, and a good meal never turned down. He also found joy in painting, reading the classics, his newspaper, and poetry.
Joe’s legacy lives on in the warmth of his family, and in the memories shared by friends near and far.
A funeral service will be held at Oshawa Funeral Home on Thursday, May 15th. Visitation will be begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by a service at 1:30 p.m. All are warmly invited to attend a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated. Online condolences may be made by using the “add a memory” tab below
