BALARAJAH, Duncan Chelliah Balarajah
April 25, 1937 - January 18, 2026Passed away peacefully in Scarborough, Ontario, onΒ January 18, 2026. He was born on April 25, 1937, in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, to Gnanam and Chelliah.Β A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and a man well respected in his community, Mr.Β Balarajah lived a life defined by Christian faith, principle, and quiet service.
An old boy of Jaffna Central College in Sri Lanka, Mr. Balarajah was remembered for hisΒ notable achievements, particularly in sports, earning praise with Cricket Colours and excelling inΒ table tennis. During his career at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, discipline and a strong senseΒ of responsibility guided his work.
Known for his wit, humour, and joyful spirit, Duncan brought laughter and warmth to everyoneΒ around him. He had a deep love for sports, music, and entertainment, finding great joy in singingΒ hymns with church choirs and enlivening gatherings with sing-songs and Baila.Β Throughout his life, Mr. Balarajah placed the needs of his family above his own, fulfilling hisΒ roles with steadfast perseverance and care. His devotion to his wife and children, and later to hisΒ grandchildren, was shown not through grand gestures, but through gentle guidance, kindness,Β and unwavering support.
Duncan is survived by his sister, Pushpi; his children, Dhanushan, Ratheeka, and Shanthan; hisΒ daughters-in-law, Nirusha and Chrishanthi; and his cherished grandchildren, Keisha, Benjamin,Β Shaylyn, Matthew, Hailey, Milan, and Jacob. He was predeceased by his parents; his belovedΒ wife, Neata; his sisters, Selvadevi and Jeyadevi; and his brothers, Jeyam, Navanathan,Β Rajakulasingham, and Deva
