With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Elizabeth ‘Anne’ Baldaro, a remarkable woman whose strength, determination, and unwavering love shaped the lives of all who knew her. She passed away at her home at the age of 92, after a life lived with courage and purpose.
Born in Birmingham, England Anne grew into a woman of quiet resilience and boundless energy. She was a devoted mother, a loyal friend, and a strong woman who met life’s challenges head on. After graduating from Teachers College in London, Anne emigrated from England to Toronto in 1957 as a young newlywed where she started a family and began her career as a kindergarten teacher with the TCDSB & DCDSB, which would last over 40 years. With the patience of St. Job, she would have a positive and lasting effect on the lives of hundreds of young children and their families.
Anne moved out to the suburbs of Agincourt in 1969, where she raised her children with care and intention, often juggling multiple roles and ensuring her family never went without. Her home was a place of warmth, wisdom and firm but loving guidance.
In the later chapters of Anne’s life she returned to school to earn her Bachelor’s degree, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Balancing her studies with full-time work and family responsibilities she proved that determination knows no age limit.
In the late 1980’s her journey took her north to Stouffville and eventually Anne settled down in her peaceful home in Quaker Village in Uxbridge with Ken Evans, her partner of 30 years and their dog Vicky.
While Ken attended to his veggie patch, Anne cultivated her expansive award-winning British garden that will be enjoyed for many years to come.
Anne was a voracious reader who loved to discuss the books she was reading (especially Lessons in Chemistry) and kept up to date with news and current affairs. After she retired, her time was split between volunteering at the York-Durham Heritage Railway, the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital, travelling, playing golf and spending time with her 7 adoring grandchildren. She always showed up to celebrate their important moments and was as proud of them as any Nana could be. With Ken by her side, they went on many adventures that took them to the U.S., Mexico, U.K and Europe. Recently she enjoyed spending time out having lunch with her family and friends.
Her brilliance and beauty were matched by her warmth and British wit and she made a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her achievements were symbols of a woman who was persistent in the face of adversity. Anne will be remembered not only for what she accomplished but for how she did it – with integrity, humility, and fierce love.
Anne is survived by her children Sue Baldaro, Paul Baldaro, Sarah Skelly, her daughter-in-law Darlene and her grandchildren, Evelyn, Megan, Matthew, Brenna, Luke, Julia & Michael, her great-grandchild Jack, and niece Rachael Kilby-Tyre, and her daughters Poppy and Evie-May. She was predeceased by her partner Ken Herbert Evans, son Timothy Baldaro, son-in-law Xavier Villada, parents Etheldreda and Francis Kilby, her sister Joan Mosely, brothers John and Bernard and her nephew Chris Kilby.
