BARRETT, Marlene Roselia Barrett
April 27, 1951 - November 9, 2025
She was a lifelong Roman Catholic and, over her lifetime, was an active Parish member at both Sacred Heart Church and Nativity of our Lord Parish here in Timmins. Marlene was an active community member, volunteering her time with various sports organizations (e.g., hockey, soccer), youth activities (e.g., Beaver Scouts Leader), and fundraising efforts supporting people living with Cancer, Heart Disease, and Multiple Sclerosis. She was fiercely proud of where she was from and loved to share with any who would listen how and why she loved Timmins and South Porcupine. Her cottage on Horwood Lake (i.e., Hoodoo Bay) was a favourite place that she often shared with many families and friends, and it was a source of wonderful memories for her. She valued and enjoyed time away with family and friends in many places, but, in particular, visits to Expo 86 in Vancouver, vacations to Florida, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and travel to Italy, as well as Casino Trips across Ontario and Quebec, were among the highlights. Day-to-day, she was a loving, determined, and strong supporting presence in the life of her sons, Ryan Barrett & Joe Barrett. Throughout Marlene’s difficult and prolonged battles with Cancer, Heart Disease, and Multiple Sclerosis, she was a proud and cherished grandmother, present always, and there to celebrate, support, and spend time with her grandchildren where possible.
Preceded in death by her firstborn daughter, Jennifer Barrett, her parents, Clarence and Roselia Burke, and her brother Barry. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Bill Barrett; Ryan Barrett, son; Joe Barrett, son, and his wife, Kate Coulson; Grandchildren, Ella, Layne, Aurora, & Roan; Sisters, Theresa & Jane (Ken Iddison); Brothers, John (Maddy Burke) & Lawrence; Numerous friends and family here in Timmins, across Ontario, and Canada – she loved you all.
The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Stephen Cohen, Dr. Kiersten Parr, Timmins & District Hospital staff, and Health Sciences North Staff (Cancer/Cardiac Rehab/Heart Failure), as well as the March of Dimes, for the committed and compassionate care and support Marlene received over the many years. We are also grateful to Dr. Kos, the staff at St. Mary’s Gardens, & Extendicare Timmins for their compassionate care of Marlene in her final months.
