CADE, Barrie Albert Cade

CADE, Barrie Albert  –  Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on July 8, 2023, at the age of 92.

Beloved husband of 54 years to Betty (nee Chisholm); devoted father of Janet (Robert Shirer) and John; loving grandfather of Rebecca and Andrew Shirer and Mackenzie and Alexandra Cade.

Brother of Peter Cade (Rev. Wilma); and brother-in-law to Ian Chisholm (deceased, 2014); and proud uncle to Carolyn, Catherine, Andrew, Lori, Mark and Bob.

In 1963, he established, with Betty, Glen Cade Pharmacy, which they proudly operated as one of Etobicoke’s most popular independent drugstores for over 50 years.

Barrie loved life, and lived it with gentle passion and a zest for adventure. He never ceased to marvel at the beauty of our world, which he would find in a Georgian Bay sunset, the song of a bird, or the artistry of opera.

Barrie will forever be remembered as a loving, gentle and generous husband, father, grandfather and uncle, and a thoughtful, caring and committed friend.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital, The Dorothy Ley Hospice, and the many PSWs who offered compassionate care in his final weeks.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, The Dorothy Ley Hospice, or the Pharmacy 5T4 Award at the University of Toronto.

A Memorial Service will be held at Islington United Church, 25 Burnhamthorpe Rd., Etobicoke, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, with reception to follow.
