In Loving Memory of Russell (Russ) Basaraba 69 Years.

On March 9th, Russ passed peacefully in his home. Russ fought a courageous battle with his health over the past several years. His loved ones find solace knowing that Russ is now reunited with the love of his life, Genia (Ewhenia) Basaraba.

Proud father of Matthew Basaraba (Brooke Williamson). Loving grandfather of Georgia Ewhenia Basaraba. Beloved son of Morris and Elvi Basaraba (both predeceased). Beloved brother of Cathy Pearce (Brian Pearce). Loving Uncle of Dean Pearce, Jessica Pearce (Dean Hartman), Marissa Armstrong (Ken Armstrong), Jeremy and Peter Zastawny.

Russ was born in Sudbury in 1956 and worked as an electrician for the IBEW 1687 union. A true enthusiast of all things on wheels, he had a lifelong love of cars and racing sleds. Russ was remarkably handy, he was able to fix anything with a motor, and he spent countless hours doing just that in the home he proudly built with his father, Morris Basaraba (predeceased).

It was no surprise that his son Matthew followed in his footsteps, becoming an auto mechanic after spending so many cherished hours in the garage with Russ as a young boy. Those moments, side by side with tools in hand, built more than skill, they built a true bond. Russ’s pride in his son ran deep, not only for his dedication to the craft they both loved, but for the devoted and loving Father Matthew has become.

Russ’s relationship with his young granddaughter, Georgia, was a beautiful bond to witness. Their visits were the highlight of his week, filling his days with joy and purpose. In the last months of his life, Russ cherished the gentle care and compassion Georgia so freely gave, whether she was helping to make him food, playing “nurse,” or proudly presenting him with a handmade craft. Those small moments meant everything to him, and he held them close to his heart.

Russ could captivate a room with his classic stories, told with his trademark gift of gab and a sparkle in his eye. Headstrong, passionate, and fiercely devoted to his family, Russ lived life with conviction and heart. His stories, his laughter, and his unwavering love will be remembered always.
