BAVERSTOCK, James Henry Baverstock
July 10, 1932 - January 15, 2026
Passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2025 at the Lakeridge Health Centre in Port Perry, at age 93. He was born July 10, 1932 in Georgetown, Ontario, but spent most of his youth in Palmerston, which he always considered to be his home town. He fondly recounted tales of his pranks in his youth back when “boys would be boys.”
Jim married the love of his life, Leone Smedmor, on May 23, 1959 at Murray Street Baptist Church in Peterborough, Ontario. The happy couple moved frequently because of Jim’s job with the Bank of Commerce. They raised their family in Pickering. The couple finally settled in King’s Bay with their many good friends and neighbours.
Jim was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be sorely missed by his children, Linda, Dave, Carol and Tim, as well as by family members through marriage, Bruce Sparks, Kevin McMorrow, and Doug Craven. He was beloved Grandad to Melissa and Christian and their son Henry, Sigrid and her son Dayne, Nicki and Ivy, Erin and Victor, Jacob and Niki, Joshua and Sarah and their family Rylee, Callie, Jessica, and Sierra and Sean and his daughter Aurora. Jim also loved tockthe many foster children he and Leone took into their home. The great majority of those children have gone on to live wonderful lives and Jim and Leone were very proud of them.
Jim was an avid sailor. He enjoyed researching his family history and compiled a large genealogy. He loved history. He enjoyed travelling and taking cruises. In his later years he fondly remembered trips to Scotland and Portugal. We will miss his wry sense of humour and ready wit.
