CHANG, Beryl Maria Lorenza Chang Obituary

CHANG, Beryl Maria Lorenza (Miss B.) – Passed away peacefully at the ripe old age of 100 on Wednesday, October 7th, 2015 at Cawthra Gardens Long Term Care in Mississauga, Ontario.

She is predeceased by her husband, James William Chang (SR).

She is lovingly remembered by her 15 children, Thelma Wong (Frank), Hudson (Geraldine), Sylvester (Gloria), Marjorie (Cherry) Chin-Fatt (Eddie), Vivien Chen, Angela Chang, Hyacinth Williams(Washington), Ann Ardell (Paul), Jacinta (Bonnie) Chin (Francis), Jim (Leonie), Anthony Chang, Michael (Ling), Mark (Gail), Francis (Sheila), Paul (Anne); 44 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren, Her sister May Lue-Yen and her family.

Predeceased by her 3 brothers. She is greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and beloved cats Dasha and Misha.

Beryl was born in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies on February 24th, 1915. She attended Chinese School in Kingston and was not allowed to complete high school thus she made sure that all her girls had a chance for a better education. She was married at 17 and started the “Chang Gang” at 19. She was a Retail Entrepreneur in Jamaica and Canada. After her husband died, she started a Christian bookstore in Hagersville, Ontario at the age of 63. She loved to read non-fiction, listen to Christian radio and travel. She loved her children and wanted them to be happy.

She had a dry sense of humour and loved to laugh. She loved music and would sing to us when we were growing up to encourage us and inspire us. When it rained she would sing “Showers of Blessing”.

We would like to express out utmost gratitude to Dr. Denys Symons, Nella Nikolakakos, Ursula Dingler and her team at Cawthra Gardens for their compassionate and expert care of our mother. We also acknowledge the support of the CCAC Manager, Fortuna Clipa, and PSW Geselle Godawe, Acupuncturist Holly Zheng who helped her become mobile and was able to walk, and the many care-givers who worked with us to care for mom while she was at home.

Visitation will be held at the Glen Oaks funeral home, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, ONtario on Friday, October 16th from 7 – 9pm., and again on Saturday, October 17th from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm, when a Celebration Service will be held in the funeral home chapel. Burial to follow.
