Gras BettyGRAS, Betty  –  At age 84, died December 20, 2015 at Stratford Hospital with all family providing vigil for her final hours. Born in The Netherlands, September 12, 1931.

Betty was strength and inspiration as a daughter, sister, friend, wife, aunt, mother and Oma to all: including her children Jane (Downey) and Doug, John and Janie (Boere), Gerry and Pat (Ferris), Rick and Erma (Boere), Paul and Angela (Jochems), Robert and Ana (Acosta) and grandchildren, Derek, Jenna, Lisa, Evan and Christena (Downey), Lauren & Adam, Kayla, Trevor, Devin, Brayden, Amy, Anthony, Chris & Britney, Greg, Brent, Marinda, Eric, Janelle, Anita, Daniel, Peter, Anna, Anneka Gras and Danny Acosta. Boersen family, Annie and Peter Bokkers, John and Judy, Ann, Bert and Liz, Ted, Jerry and Renelda, Henk and Emma, Joan, John and Viola, Alieda and Joe Vlasman.


Pre-deceased by her loving husband Andre in 2013, and family members Dora and Adrian Olsthoorn, Tony Boersen, Martina Boersen, Peter Oud, Arnold Gras, Herman and Truus Gras, and Hans Scheltinga.

Betty immigrated in 1951 with the Boersen family planting many seeds of faith and love as they began their new life in Canada. Betty and her husband, Andre of 56 years settled on their family farm on ‘old Pork Road’ in South East Hope. Together they raised six children on the dairy farm. Betty passionately supported her community by serving the Church, CWL, Epilepsy Society, St. Vincent De Paul, and many other organizations.

Friends and relatives may call at W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Tuesday, December 22, from 3-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. CWL prayers at 2:45 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 96 Huron Street Stratford, Wednesday, December 23, at 10 a.m., officiated by Father Dick Bester.

Memorial expressions of sympathy may be made to Stratford & District Right to Life, St. Joseph’s Church Restoration Fund or Epilepsy Canada.
