It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we share the passing of Christopher Charles Black. Chris is survived by his life companion Gail, his son Aidan (Dianne), and grandson William. He was predeceased by his parents, Patricia and Bert, and is remembered by sisters Frances and Susan (Terry) and brother Antony.
Chris suffered a sudden and massive stroke on May 28th, and passed away on June 5th, 2025, in his 76th year. He was a loving companion and father, an international criminal lawyer, activist, actor, writer, storyteller, author… and the list goes on — musician, traveler, orator, teacher, and friend.
Chris was known as a freethinker and iconoclast — someone who saw the world differently, yet was genuinely interested in everyone and everything. While you may not have always agreed with him, he believed in your right to be wrong.
He remains unforgettable, a true warrior poet. That rakish smile, that twinkle in his eye — his legacy endures. “Bang the drum slowly and play the Fife lowly.” He would want us not to hang our heads, but raise them high and look toward the horizon.
Farewell, Comrade.
Donations in memory of Christopher may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
