With deep sadness, the family of Robert George Black announce his passing on December 5, 2025 at the Red Lake Hospital.
Robert or Bob as most knew him was born January 23, 1940 in Regina to parents William and Marjorie. Though Bobβs official education was limited that never stopped him from accomplishing many things in life. In 1957 Bob met Diane in Regina while working at the post office. Bob and Diane were married in 1958 and shortly after welcomed their first daughter Deborah in 1958, followed by son Billy in 1959 and Karen in 1962. The young family moved from Regina to Red Lake, Ontario in 1967 for what was originally meant to be a 5-year commitment . Upon their arrival Bob quickly built a successful construction company followed by a retail business and then delved deep into furniture and all types of wood work featuring a fierce artistic talent.
In his younger days, Bob had many hobbies including hunting, fishing, curling and golfing. He also loved to entertain, often inviting guests over to the house for dinner or a visit. Travelling was also an interest for Bob and Diane. Bob was an animal lover, often bringing home any injured animal/reptile/bird that he came across. The family had many dogs over the years but Ginger the boxer was his greatest pal, following him to construction sites or jobs around town. Wherever Bob was, Ginger would be sure to follow.
Bob was a talented woodworker, many friends and family members have been gifted treasured pieces of custom furniture and intarsia over the years. The evidence of his talents can be seen throughout Bob and Dianeβs beautiful home.
Bob and Dianeβs home was often the setting for family gatherings including Christmas dinners, celebrations and summer vacations for the grandkids. Many days were spent fishing, being out on the houseboat or down at the dock. He also enjoyed his βcoffee timeβ which was always at 3 pm and often included a sweet treat or two.
He is survived by his wife Diane of 67 years, daughters Deb (Cal) and Karen (Cameron), and six grandchildren nine great grandchildren. Bob was predeceased by his parents, brothers Bill and Howard, and son-in-law Cal. Tragically Bob and Diane lost their son Billy in 1980.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, nurses and support staff who were involved in Bobβs care over the years.
A visitation will be held at the Red Lake Funeral Chapel on Friday, December 12th from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service officiated by Mr. Henry Hostetler. Cremation will follow and interment will take place at a later date.
If desired, donations may be made in Bobβs name to the Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital Foundation or Auxiliary through the Red Lake Chapel, Box 237, Red Lake, ON P0V 2M0.
