BLANCHETTE, , Ernie Blanchette Sr.

It is with broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Ernie, surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the age of 89. He leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Joan. Devoted father of Ernie Jr. (Cathy), Monique Johnson (Victor), and Denise Moss (Neal). He will always be remembered by his adoring grandchildren, Bryan (Laura), Kevin (Danielle), Jessica, Jamie, and Stephanie (Robert). He was also a proud great-grandfather to Damian, who was the apple of his eye. Ernie will be fondly remembered as a fun-loving brother-in-law, uncle, and an amazing friend to many.

Family was the most important thing in the world to him. Any time his family gathered, whether it be for a birthday, a holiday, or an impromptu dinner, it was the best of times. Ernie was a proud employee of Algoma Steel Tube Division for 35 years before retiring in 1992. In the summer months, he could be found in his garden, where his green thumb provided many people with delicious vegetables. He spent many great years at Camp 55 with his buddies and his “little woman” Joan. At Camp 55, he caught countless fish and made cherished memories. He was an avid Soo Greyhounds fan and held season tickets for many years.

At Ernie’s request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the wonderful nurses and caregivers in the emergency department and on 3C at the Sault Area Hospital. Special thanks to Jennifer Hendrie, Dr. Schamp, Mary, and Lisa for their care and kindness.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre.

Ernie truly had a heart of gold, and he will be missed beyond belief. The Man, The Myth, The Legend.
