Hugh Boland of Riverbend Retirement Home, Cambridge, and formerly of Ayr, Ontario, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Guelph, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at the age of 91.

Beloved husband of 70 years to Betty (née Ford). Cherished father to Don (Patricia), Heather Connell (the late Rick), and Dave (Laura). Much-loved grandfather to Kyle (Andrea), Kevin (Brittney), Chris, Chloe (Andrew), Jake (Nicole), and Taylor, as well as great-grandfather to five. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Boland (née Cruickshank), and his siblings Jim and Margaret. Hugh was a devoted family man who always placed the needs of his loved ones first. In 1962, with help from his brother Jim and friends, he built the family home in Reidsville, where they lived until 2014 before moving back into Ayr. The last two and a half years were spent at Riverbend in Cambridge.

Hugh and Betty shared a love for travel, camping across North America as a young family and later visiting destinations such as Alaska and Barbados. A respected electrician by trade, Hugh was often sought after for his expertise and advice. He led a life of purpose, setting a strong example for his children and grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Hugh’s life at a visitation with refreshments on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, Ayr Chapel, 183 Northumberland St., Ayr. Interment will follow at Ayr Cemetery at a later date.
