BROWN, Stephen Douglas Brown

It is with deeply profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Douglas Brown at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at the age of 72. Beloved and cherished husband of Tammy, and father to his loving son James. He is also father to Bill (Amanda), Lara Whitwell (Brock) and Robert. Stephen was an avid pilot, having attained his pilot’s licence before he could even drive a car. He loved the thrill of aerobatics. He enjoyed music of all kinds but particularly music played on the piano and anything by Queen. He was a great technology lover who always wanted to be on the cutting edge of the newest “gadgets”. His proudest moment was being appointed a judge of the Ontario Court of Justice in 2006. Stephen knew he could change lives. He knew he could make a difference. He proved that when he started the Community Treatment Court in Halton where people with mental health and addiction issues could get the help they needed. Stephen had extreme compassion for people and that showed in every case he presided over. His specialized team of CMHA “Angels” will always be held close to his heart, as well as every member of the CTC. That court was his pride and joy. Stephen was a man of great kindness and understanding, and he loved helping people become the best version of themselves.

Stephen will be missed by many but particularly his University of Ottawa law school buddies who were lucky enough to spend time with him mere weeks before his untimely death. Gone too soon but never forgotten. Donations in memory of Justice Stephen Brown may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association Halton. Many thanks to Dr. Rogers, Dr. Swan and the entire ICU team at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital. Your extreme kindness, caring and compassion will never be forgotten. Heaven gained this angel way too soon.
