BRUYERE, Gerald Godfrey – April 12, 1926 – September 22, 2015
It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Gerald G. Bruyere on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 in Fort Frances.
Dad was born on Monday, April 12, 1926 at Couchiching First Nation, Ontario to Alfred and Esther Bruyere.
He attended St. Marguerite’s Residential School on Couchiching First Nation. After graduation he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He received an honorable discharge after 8 years of dedicated service. Gerald continued to share his stories of his travels of the world during his years of service.
Gerald was later employed by Boise Cascade in Fort Frances, Ontario until his retirement. He was an avid sports fan of curling and baseball. He also loved his time spent with family, fishing for the one that got away.
In 1973 he was united in marriage to the love of his life Elsie Rose. Together Gerald and Elsie brought together their 10 children. During their 30 years of marriage their family grew with the blessing of 22 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. They lived at their home on Couchiching until Elsie’s passing in 2003.
Gerald is survived by his children, Ernest Bruyere, Sheila McMahon, Barb (Bruce) Hambleton, Wayne Bruyere and Steven Bruyere. He is also survived by his step-children Shirley (Tim) Kampa, Larry (Tracey Indian, Tom Indian and Jamie (Debbie) Brown and sister-in-law Shirley Bruyere. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Elsie Rose, parents Alfred and Esther, brothers, Eddie, Phillip, Leonard, Claude, Bruce, Stephen, Kenneth and Ronald and his sisters Ruth, Bertha, Lorraine and Gertrude. He is also predeceased by his step-daughter Linda Indian and granddaughter Angela Indian.
Visitation will be held on Sunday September 27, 2015 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Green Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 pm.
A memorial service held on Monday, September 28th, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at Couchiching First Nation.
The honourary pallbearers will be some of his grandsons; Terry McMahon, Ryan McMahon, Robert Horton and Jonathan Indian
The family thanks the special ladies/nurse in the Dialysis Unit. Dad loved each of you.
In memoriam donations may be made to the Dialysis Unit at LaVerendrye General Hospital.
