Frank Burgess

April 1, 1942 – December 10, 2024

We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Frank Burgess on December 10, 2024, at the age of 82. Frank is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth, and their three children: Jane, John, and Michael.

Born and raised in Toronto, Frank maintained a lifelong interest in the city’s history. He fondly recalled childhood visits to Sunnyside Amusement Park and meeting Sam “the Record Man” Sniderman at his first record store on Yonge Street. Frank also witnessed history, taking his daughter to see the final pieces of the CN Tower being installed in the 1970s and teaching his kids the finer points of 5-pin bowling in the 1980s.

A graduate of Ryerson University, Frank had a 25+ year career with the Ministry of Transportation, including time as a Field Monitor traveling across Ontario. In retirement, Frank enjoyed healthy years with Ruth, splitting their time between Niagara and their cottage, where he loved feeding hummingbirds and ducks.

Frank’s kindness, sense of humor, and love of storytelling will be dearly missed. His love of trains and attention to the birdfeeders are legacies that his family will carry on in his honor.

A celebration of Frank’s life will be held in the new year. Donations in his memory may be made to Cat’s Anonymous rescue in East Garafraxa or the Salvation Army. Arrangements are entrusted to Turner & Porter Funeral Directors, Etobicoke.
