Passed away peacefully at Strathmere Lodge in Strathroy on Tuesday January 20, 2026 at the age of 80.
He will be sadly missed by his children Jeff (Kristie), Jodi (Chris) Churney, and Jana (Tomas) Burget.
Papa to Alicia (David), Nicolas (Teegan), Melissa, Jack, Grace, Emily and Eric.
Great-Papa to Chet and Theodore.
Predeceased by his parents Howard and Norma (Smith), an infant sister, brother Dale, nephews Bradley, Michael, Paul and his wife Darlene (Free).
He is survived by his brothers Ken (Eleanor), Brian (Robin), Karl, and sisters Cheryl (Tom), Janice (Robert), sister-in-law Linda and many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Doug was a funny man with a wild sense of humor.
He loved his family and was very loyal to his brothers.
They spent years together farming and fixing cars.
He loved his D.H. Cable trucking business because it allowed him to be outdoors with his friends and tinkering in his shop.
He spent most of his life in the Birnam area where his family and generations before him settled.
His kids and grandkids often reflect on his humble beginnings.
Doug lived a simple life, he loved a double double, a hamburg and a bottle of coke with a can of nuts.
If you were lucky to share any of those with him he was colorful in his language and was harmless in his intent.
He gave up smoking a pipe but often wished he could have one last puff.
The family would like to thank all the amazing and caring staff at Strathmere Lodge for their love, care, and support over the past
couple of years.
According to Dougβs wishes, there will be no funeral service or celebration of life; cremation has taken place with private burial in Bethel Cemetery at a later date.
