CAMMALLERI, Giovana “Janie” Cammalleri
March 8, 1952 - January 28, 2026
Beloved wife, mother, Nonna, and sister, passed away suddenly at the age of 73 in Windsor, Ontario.
Born in Montallegro, Sicily, Janie immigrated to Canada with her family at the age of two and was raised in Windsor, a city she proudly called home for the rest of her life. She was married for 50 years to the love of her life, Pietro “Peter” Cammalleri, with whom she built a close, vibrant, and deeply devoted family.
Janie was a loving mother to Joseph and Nicole (Bruder), and Frank and Melissa (Edwards), and the proudest Nonna to Benjamin, Domenic, and Noella. Her family was her greatest joy, and she never missed an opportunity to brag about them to anyone who would listen.
Always sharp and engaged, Janie loved keeping up with current news and celebrity gossip and could often be found enjoying a good card game. Her grandchildren will especially miss her cooking, most famously her lasagna, which was made with love and tradition and brought everyone together around the table.
She was predeceased by her father, Francesco Piazza (2009).
Janie is survived by her devoted husband Peter; her cherished mother, Anna Piazza, age 99; her siblings Josie and John Donato, Domenica and the late Bruno Cremasco (2016), Peter and Franca Piazza, Anthony and Denise Piazza, and Enzo Piazza.
She is also lovingly remembered by Peter’s family: the late Leonardo (2022) and Giuseppina Cammalleri (2013), Angela and the late Paolo Bongiorno (2024), Frank and Filomena Cammalleri, and Filomena and Jerry Baronian.
Janie will be deeply missed by her 21 nieces and nephews, along with their children and grandchildren, all of whom she adored.
Janie’s love for her family, her sharp wit, and her generous heart will be remembered always by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
