CAPRETTA, Alberto Francesco Capretta

It is with profound sadness we share Alberto Francesco Capretta passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 27, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton. Dear father of Roberto (Carolyn) and Anna Russ (Daniel). Proud grandfather of Deanna Anderson (Kevin), Cassandra Russ (Brad), Sabrina Russ, Natalie Capretta and Joshua Capretta. Cherished great-grandfather “Puppy C” of Leonardo and Ophelia Anderson. Reunited with his parents Antonio and Sylvia Capretta and his brother Alfredo. Alberto is survived by his loving sisters Maria (and the late Antonio Capretta), Enrichetta (and the late Giacamo Valle) and sister-in-law Irma Capretta. Will be sadly missed by longtime friend Peggy. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Alberto was born in Casabona – Rionero Sannitico, Molise, Italy. He immigrated to Canada in 1952 seeking a better life. He lied about his age to get a job at National Steel Car so he could buy his first car. He was a welder by trade and worked at Trailmobile/Fruehauf for 40 years and at Larco/COH for over 20 years. He finally retired at the young age of 79, and if he had it his way, he would have worked until he was 101. He was a generous person who was always willing to lend a hand to fix things around the house. He loved watching soccer and formula one racing on Sundays, going for walks on the beach and lying in his backyard during the summertime under the cherry tree. He enjoyed telling stories about his life back at Casabona, his short time at St. Patrick’s school and his brief boxing career. Life was not complete without a small regular coffee and honey dip donut, and keeping stashes of apple pies, ice cream sandwiches, Milano S biscuits, Ferrero Rocher, Toblerone and Torrone chocolates in his house. Alberto was many things, including a fiercely proud Italian, but most of all he was a proud dad, grandfather and great-grandfather. A special thank you to the nurses and staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital that went above and beyond to try to make his last days comfortable.

Visitation will be held at FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL CHAPEL, 43 Barton St. E., on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 2-4p.m. & 7-9p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at St. Anthony’s Church. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Burlington. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
