CAPRETTA, Carmine Capretta
April 28, 1938 - November 28, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the very sudden passing of Carmine Capretta, who passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, in his 88th year, surrounded by his loving family.
Carmine was a devoted husband, father, and Nonno whose greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Elena, his loving children, Fred & Julie Capretta, Dina & Mike Meunier, Bruno Capretta & Trish Maher, his cherished grandchildren Beth Meunier (Andy), Annie Capretta (Melvin), and Peter Capretta (Rory), and his adored great-granddaughter, Sophie Bayoneto. Carmine is predeceased by his four brothers: Antonio, Alberto, Michele, Alfredo and survived by his sister, Gioconda in Melbourne, Australia. He will be dearly missed by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, his extended family and many friends.
Born in Casabona, Italy, Carmine worked for a number of years in Switzerland before moving to Canada. He and Elena made their home in Stoney Creek, where they’ve lived for over 40 years. A man of great integrity and dedication, Carmine worked for many years as a custodian with the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board, where his strong work ethic and friendly nature touched many lives. He was known in the Board as the “Unofficial Minister of Education”.
Renowned for his green thumb and love of the outdoors, Carmine found happiness in his immaculate garden, making his own wine, and playing bocce with friends. He instilled the value of higher education in all of his children and grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments. Carmine was a kind neighbour to all, and appreciated the friends in his community. His story-telling and humour will be remembered by all who knew him.
Carmine’s family takes comfort in knowing he is at peace after a life well lived. His life stands as a testament to the power of hard work, faith, and family. His love will continue to live on through those he leaves behind.
