We all… already miss Bobbi’s perogies and smile.
I asked Bobbi decades ago why her cooking was so amazing, and she replied with great humility that she learned from not only her mother, but also from each of her older sisters who protected and treated her like an angel.
Mostly though… we will miss Laura’s unconditional love, empathy, and devotion to family.
Laura, the youngest in her family, had, over the course of several decades said final goodbyes to her parents, brothers, and sisters. And although it was sixty years of heartaches with each passing, she found happiness in the warm spirit, love, and support of her sons and their families, and also friends.
A few years ago, I asked my mother if time heals the pain of loss. She thought quietly for a moment and replied, “No, because I still cry for my mother who passed in 1969. The only thing that shepherds me through loneliness is the compassion and blessing of family.”
Laura will live on forever through those who pass her love and kindness forward into tomorrow.
She is survived by her sons; Maurice Cardinal and his sons and their families, grandson Jhode & Kendahl Cardinal, great granddaughter Waverly, and great grandson London, plus grandson Jesse Cardinal & Kait Klein, and great grandson Fionndly; son Dwayne Cardinal and grandson Michael Cardinal, plus the late Kelly Cardinal & ex-Teresa Jackiw, and great grandsons Kyle and Tyler Jackiw; son Calvin Cardinal & Lorie Cochrane, plus granddaughters Lona & Chris Finley, great granddaughter Brea, great grandson Ethan, granddaughter Dana Reeson & Colin, and great grandsons Cameron, and Andrew, plus loving granddaughter Paige Cardinal & Mike O’Reily; son Rodney Cardinal & Kathy, grandson Justin Manners & ex-Jillian, great grandsons Nolan and Chase Manners, plus granddaughter Kaitlyn & Max Makin and grandson Mathew Cardinal.
Also, dear hearts, her nephews; late Ted, & Erika, Leonard Zawaski & Bev Weiss, Ron & Mariya Zawaski; Mel & Mary Poworoznyk, Leonard & Maria Poworoznyk; Johnny & late Bernice Poworoznyk; and loving nieces Shirley & Russell Boyechko, Sylvia & Nick Maksymchuk, Linda & Jack Feschuk, and Phyllis Engelstad, plus all of their families near and far. I assured Gale that Mom is also hugging Pete & Irene in heaven. And of course Laura’s companion and confidante, Ron Beedle.
A celebration of life is planned in Oshawa early in 2026. Laura’s urn will be interred in a small ceremony in her family plot in Fraserwood Manitoba at a time to be determined later in 2026.
If you’d like to honour her life, please plant a flower or a tree for Laura, or make a contribution in her name posthumously to the diabetes association of your choice. Laura would also dearly love for you to think of her when an extraordinarily tasty morsal dances across your tongue.
A life well-lived, my family and friends… is how one lives forever. amen.
