CASTELO, Hermano De Medeiros Castelo

February 11, 1946 - December 29, 2025
CASTELO, Hermano De Medeiros Castelo

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hermano Castelo, in his 79th year and just shy of his 80th birthday. He was surrounded by love, with his family by his side. A devoted husband of 53 years to Albertina, cherished father to Grace, Patricia (Steve), and by the memory of his predeceased son Mark. As an Avô, his greatest joy was his granddaughter Sophia, whom he adored. He was born February 11, 1946, in São Miguel, Açores, Portugal, and is predeceased by his parents Manuel Castelo and Gilda De Medeiros Castelo. He is survived by his sister Natividade (João Paulo). Hermano will also be missed by his sister-in-law Elvira Rodrigues (Renato) and his nieces and nephews. In his youth, he spent his time swimming and feeling at peace near his adored Atlantic Ocean. He was also a soccer player for Sport Clube Operário, for several years and was an avid Sporting fan. His roots always remained close to his heart.

Hermano immigrated to Canada in 1971, built a fulfilling career as a Millwright, and worked for Walker Exhaust/Tenneco Automotive for 28 years, earning the respect and friendship of many colleagues. Hermano found deep contentment in traveling, gardening, fishing, and quiet mornings in his backyard. In retirement, weekends at the cottage became a treasured pass time. He will be remembered for his willingness to lend a helping hand, his practical ingenuity, and his reputation as a “jack of all trades”. More than anything, he taught by example—kindness, honesty, perseverance—and his strong, unwavering love shaped the lives of his family in ways that will never be forgotten.

“Dad, thank you for every lesson, every sacrifice, and every moment of love. We are who we are because of you, and we will honor your memory always. Your love will remain with us forever.”
