CHALK, Ronald Jeffrey Chalk
July 6, 1941 - November 15, 2025
Passed away on November 15th, 2025 at Saanich Peninsula Hospital. Ron, Ronnie to his family, was born in Welland, Ontario on July 6th, 1941. Ronnie seldom saw his father during the war, as Jeffrey was often stationed elsewhere, so he lived a solitary life with his mother Vivian, until after the war when he acquired siblings Allan, Penny, Bill and Kathy. The family was living in St. Hubert, Quebec, an air force base just south of Montreal, when Ron graduated from Chambly County High School in St. Lambert and began a biology degree at McGill University. Despite his field of education, he left university and moved west to Vancouver, becoming a Real Estate salesman like his father, who went into the trade after retiring from the air force. By all accounts Ron was good at his job. He once told me that he got a real thrill from finding the perfect house for someone. Yet with this talent, he was never good at finding a house for himself. He bought a log house on Eagle Island in West Vancouver, and a parcel of land on Saturna Island, neither of which turned out to be good investments. He gave up Real Estate and went into the landscaping business with his friend Ray. Ron next became a property appraiser and moved to Calgary for a few years, then back to White Rock and eventually to Vancouver Island, settling in Sidney where he met Debby Durose. They were married on September 30th, 2012, the 2nd marriage for both, and enjoyed a quiet life on the Saanich Peninsula. He sadly passed away after a brief illness and with family by his side.
