CHAN, Kam-Ng Chan

A resident of Chatham, Kam-Ng Chan peacefully passed away with family at his side at Chatham-Kent Hospice on June 11, 2025, at the age of 90.

Born in Canton, China, Kam-Ng was the son of Jeurng Lok and Kook (née Cheung) Chan. Beloved husband of 56 years to Betty Chor Bik (née Wong). Loving father to Patricia Bow (Stephen) and Everett Chan (Rebecca). Proud grandfather to Andrew, Jamie Bow, Wesley, and Daniel Chan.

Kam overcame great adversity, escaping both Japanese and Communist regimes to Hong Kong, where he caught up on six years of lost schooling and became a structural civil engineer. In 1966, he immigrated to Halifax and married his eternal love, Betty.

Later, Kam transitioned careers and opened The Golden Crown Restaurant in Chatham, Ontario. A man of great strength and heart, he was not only a devoted family man but also sponsored many relatives to start new lives in Canada. His wisdom, humility, and generosity touched many lives.

Kam enjoyed gardening—famous for growing enormous winter melons—and cooking for those he loved. His daily coffee chats with friends were a cherished tradition.

Family will receive friends at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham, on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place, and a private family burial will follow at a later date.

Donations in Kam-Ng’s memory may be made to the Chatham Kent Hospice Foundation.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at McKinlay Funeral Home.
