CHASE, Elden Leland chase
March 29, 1955 - October 11, 2025
The family and friends of Eldon Chase are saddened to announce his passing on October 11, 2025, at Hospice House in Kelowna, BC.
Eldon chose his headstone with the images of a horse, a motorcycle, and an eagle with the caption “Ride Hard and Fly Free”. This is the perfect representation of Eldon’s life, as he was a free spirit who loved speed, (a little bit of) risk, and freedom.
As a young boy, he loved riding horses and had many opportunities to break untrained horses as his parents owned and operated Spot Luck Farms, breeding and raising Appaloosa horses. Eldon’s favourites were Red Wing and Rangatang.
Eldon continued to “ride hard”, but as a young man, he graduated from horses to motorcycles. His favourite ride was his Harley-Davidson.
The third image is the eagle, which has always been a significant symbol for all the members of the Chase family. Eldon sincerely believed that after he passed, he would be flying free like an eagle.
Eldon was born on March 20, 1955, in Kelowna, BC, and remained here for most of his life. He lived in the same house that he grew up in, as he bought the family home on Leathead Road from his parents.
Growing up, Eldon worked hard on the family farm, and at 15 years of age, began working for the family garbage business. The F.L. Chase Rural Garbage Collection was the first of its kind, established in 1952, and used the advertising caption of “Satisfaction Guaranteed or Double Your Garbage Back!”. It was tough work. Before automated trucks, the workers had to heave the full garbage cans above their heads to tilt the contents over the sides of the dump truck!
When the business was sold to Cenoka in 1977, Eldon took the opportunity to purchase one of the trucks and operated it until 1982, then began working at Gorman’s Sawmill. In 1987, he left for Alberta to work in the oil and gas industry.
In 2006, he was in a serious life altering vehicle accident, which put him into semi-retirement, working in security and volunteering at the Army Navy Club. During these years, Eldon took great pride in transforming his yard into a park, creating unique gardens with various rocks, driftwood pieces and historical artifacts.
Although Eldon never married nor had children, he cherished his pet babies. He especially loved German Shepards, and Tundra was his #1. Although, Bennie, a Shih Tzu, was his beloved in his last years.
Eldon was predeceased by his father, Forrest Chase (d. 2004) and his beloved mother, Laura Wilson (d. 2022). He tragically lost four siblings: Harold (d. 1955), Velma (Denny Sjoberg) (d. 1982), Marty (Sheryle) (d. 2016), and Leslie (Val) (d. 2017).
He is survived by his sister Marie (Jim Mathers); brother Raymond (Shirley); and many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Eldon family would like to thank the palliative home care team, who provided exceptional care, and the wonderful staff at hospice house (especially Joelle and Jodi), whose kindness is deeply appreciated. Hospice House is a godsend and gave Eldon the gift of comfort in his last weeks.
Family and close friends will honour Eldon with a Graveside Service on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM, located at LAKEVIEW MEMORIAL GARDENS CEMETERY, 2850 Dry Valley Rd, Kelowna, BC.
