CHESSMAN, Elaine Cheesman

It is with profound sadness and gratitude for a life well lived that we share the news of the passing of (Dorothy) Elaine Cheesman. Born February 26, 1931 in Stittsville, Ontario, Elaine passed away peacefully at her home in Port Perry, Ontario with loving family by her side on August 29, 2025 at the age of 94.

She was the loving mother of Jeff (Dawn) and Dave (Katie) and proud grandmother of Bradley (Jasmine). Elaine was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Nelson, her parents Fredrick and Annie Bradley, her brothers Bill and Ron, and her sister Claire. Elaine is survived by her only remaining sibling, Fred (Gail).

Elaine will be remembered as loving, fiercely independent, feisty, beautiful inside and out, and devoted. Her devotion was best seen in her round-the-clock care of Nelson in his declining years.

Elaine was involved for many years in the Port Perry community, including curling, playing bridge and volunteering at the local food bank.

She enjoyed daily reading of the Toronto Star from front to back in a particular order, watching her favourite baseball team The Toronto Blue Jays, gardening, and completing the tasks involved in her role in the family business even up until the week before her passing. Most of all, she looked forward to the daily visits of her sons.

We would like to thank all her doctors, nurses and her caregiver, Sarah who made it possible for Elaine to spend her final weeks at home.

Respecting Elaine’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will take place followed by a celebration of life at a later date. Funeral arrangements were made through Low and Low Funeral Home in Port Perry.
