CHORNOBEY, William Bill Chornobey
December 4, 2025
Passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 63.
Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Mavis (nee Powley); his children William Chornobey III, Lori (Justin), Cody (Merissa), Dylan (Nicole), Chad (Amanda). Nothing made Bill happier than time with his grandchildren: Colton, Calvin, Brantley, and Juliet; Santina and Tucker; Malia and Lexi; and Leland, Evelyn, and Beckham. Whether playing, joking, or just hanging out, they filled his days with laughter and love. Son of the late Ellen Rankin and the late William Chornobey Sr. Survived by his siblings Grace Chornobey, Derik Chornobey, Cindy Fletcher, Blake Chornobey, and Jim Rankin.
Bill was born in Tisdale Township and grew up in Timmins. He had a lifelong passion for the Toronto Maple Leafs, never missing a game. Bill loved getting his hands dirty working on his car, always with a smile and a sense of satisfaction when a job was well done. He loved going for coffee and watching sunsets with his wife, playing with his grandchildren, enjoying movies in the evenings, and indulging in his favorite foods, especially pasta meals, apple pie and vanilla ice cream.
A man of great humor, generosity, and resilience, Bill faced every challenge head-on and continued to work through his cancer treatments for as long as he could. He took pride and joy in his family, and his unwavering support and love touched everyone around him.
Bill will be remembered for doing what he knew and loved best, surrounded by the simple joys of life and the people he loved most.
As Bill’s children, we are forever grateful to our mother, Mavis, for the love and support she gave Dad. Her constant presence, compassion, and devotion meant the world to him and to all of us, and her care will remain a lasting inspiration in our hearts.
Bill’s loved ones would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to Liam Perkins for playing the bagpipes on Bill’s 63rd birthday, a sound he had always loved and cherished, making the day even more special.
Bill’s wife and children wish to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Booth, who visited Bill at home weekly, and to his palliative care nurse, Dawn, whose daily presence, support, and compassion meant the world to him and his family.
From the hearts of his wife and children, we extend our deepest thanks to all the staff at ARCH for their care and compassion, making sure Bill was comfortable and well looked after in his final days.
