CHRETIEN, Aurel Chretien
July 6, 1936 - November 1, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of Al Chretien, who passed away on November 1, 2025, at the age of 89.
Al is survived by his loving family, including his partner Lorraine Gramlich; children Wayne, Alan, and Yvonne; grandchildren Brad, Danielle, Sean, Shantell, and Kristina; and siblings Adrien and Irene.
He now goes to join his beloved wife, Margaret Chretien, who passed before him.
Al was born on July 6, 1936, in Cold Lake, Alberta, and from the very beginning, he brought energy and joy wherever he went. Loud, outgoing, and endlessly friendly, Al had a gift for making people feel like old friends within minutes of meeting them. Whether he was shopping at Home Depot, wandering through Walmart, or grabbing breakfast at his favourite diner, he was known by name and left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to cross his path. His warmth and laughter filled every room, and his stories were as unforgettable as he was.
Music was a cornerstone of Al’s life. A talented guitarist, he found immense joy in playing with the old-time fiddlers, sharing his love of song and rhythm with anyone who cared to listen. When he wasn’t playing or listening to music, Al could often be found on the road in his RV, exploring Canada and the U.S., with Bellingham being one of his favourite destinations. Some of his most cherished moments were simpler ones, enjoying breakfast with his grandson, Brad, at the Cherry Pit or the Pepper Pot, where laughter and conversation flowed as easily as the coffee.
Above all else, Al loved his family deeply. His presence was a source of strength, humour, and love, and he will be profoundly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Memorial Service in Al’s honour will be held on THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2025, at 1:00 PM, located at SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME FAMILY CENTRE, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.
