In Loving Memory Of Chia Hsin Chung 鍾嘉新
Chia Hsin Chung, 73, of Toronto, passed away on March 15, 2025, surrounded by his family, succumbing to a brain hemorrhage caused by high blood pressure.
Chia Hsin was born on November 19, 1951, to Chung Yi Shin and Yang Chin Ying in Calcutta, India. He grew up in Tangra, attended Pei Mei Chinese School, and then boarding school at St. Xavier’s High School in Sahibganj. Before completing his studies, he left school to help his family’s leather tanning business and eventually ran his own tannery.
In 1975, Chia Hsin immigrated to Canada, where he met Kwei Fong, whom he married. Together, they had two children, Yinnie and Billy. He worked as a die cutter, bought a house in Scarborough, and ensured both of his children completed university. After retiring in 2013, he became a father-in-law and a grandfather, enjoying his free time socializing with his lifelong friends.
Chia Hsin was known for having the loudest, most boisterous voice in any room. Tough as nails on the outside, soft on the inside, yet even tougher deeper inside, he was a man of principle—unwavering in his duty to family and his loyalty to friends. He had a big personality, fitting of a man with a big heart.
He is survived by his wife Kwei Fong; daughter Yinnie, her husband Philip, and their children Daenerys and Sydney; son Billy, his wife Christine, and their children Jasmine and Rosalyn.
