CINO, Gaspare Cino

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Gaspare Cino, surrounded by his loving family on February 28, 2026, at the age of 96. Born in Racalmuto, Sicily, he courageously began a new chapter, immigrating to Canada in 1953.

Upon the arrival of the love of his life Carmela (Melina) Cino of 69 years, they built a life rooted in hard work, love, and family. A devoted husband and proud father of three, his family was truly his life and greatest joy. He is survived by his children Chuck (Patricia), Linda (Filippo) Liota and John (Katie).

He was a loving and attentive Nonno to his seven grandchildren, who he absolutely adored, caring for them with patience, pride, and an endless supply of wisdom and warmth. Daniel (Dayna), Alyssa, Nicholas (Vienna), Cristina (Dan), Lucas, Joseph and Sophia, and bisnonno to Delilah.

He will be sadly missed by his sister and brother-in-law Joanne (Salvatore) Avarello and sister-in-law Salvina (predeceased Gaetano) Vassallo. Gaspare was predeceased by his sister Maria (Salvatore) Campenella, brother Salvatore (Carmelina) Cino, his sisters-in-law Suor Calogera Vitello, Maria (Geralamo) Sferrazza-Papa, and brother-in-law Carmelo (Eugenia) Vitello. He will be sadly missed by his many caring nephews and nieces at home and in Italy, Belgium and England.

Gaspare was employed by Hamilton Baking Company for 21 years, where he made many lifelong friends delivering bread to households and grocery stores in the area. He also worked for the City of Hamilton in maintenance, at several arenas in Hamilton, and learned to skate at age 50.He found happiness in the simple pleasures: spending time with family and friends, his house was never empty. He loved tending to his garden, nursing his fig tree and flowers in his greenhouse, swimming in his pool, enjoying his cherished Friday afternoon saunas, and fixing anything that needed repairing. In his later years, he took great delight in completing jigsaw puzzles and even more pleasure in giving away his prized completed puzzles to many friends and family.

He possessed an incredible strong will, and a remarkable determination in everything he did throughout his life. He had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh. He enjoyed singing old Italian songs and loved to share that with everyone. He will be profoundly missed but leaves behind so many great memories that will last a lifetime.Thank you to Dr. Profetto, Dr. Belley-Cote, and all the PSW’s from Bayshore Healthcare. Special thank you to Orlando Santini and Santo Liota for your companionship, and all your help in the garden, greenhouse and lawncare.

Visitation will be held at Friscolanti Funeral Home (43 Barton St. E. Hamilton) on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 pm. to 8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.  at All Souls Church. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre cemetery, in Burlington.
